Indiana men’s basketball’s frontcourt rebuild has been the biggest (literally and figuratively) focus of the Hoosiers’ offseason, but the backcourt issues were pretty glaring as well in 2025-26.
The Hoosier guards just weren’t dynamic enough to hang in Big Ten play and, try as they might, both sides of the court sagged as a result. Indiana was determined to fix that issue in hand with the frontcourt this offseason and the result was, at the very least, a talent infusion.
Bryce Lindsay, who committed
to Indiana after spending a single season at Villanova, was extremely under the radar before announcing his pledge to the Hoosiers.
G Bryce Lindsay
- Position: Combo guard
- Year: Fourth
- Role: Sixth man
- Previous school: Villanova
Lindsay has spent each of his first three seasons of college basketball with a different program.
Lindsay was rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports coming out of high school, ultimately signing with Texas A&M. He appeared sparingly for the Aggies before a season-ending injury cut his first season short. From there, he transferred down a level to James Madison, where he earned the Sun Belt’s Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year nods. He returned to the high major level last season with Villanova, Kevin Willard’s first season leading the Wildcats, logging 31 starts.
As previously mentioned, he was something of a surprise signing for Indiana with his commitment coming without any prior news of a visit or recruiting effort. He’s since proven to be a key piece for this team, coming off the bench to relieve Markus Burton as a ballhandler.
Lindsay’s fluid with the ball in his hands and can score himself, either from distance or at the basket, while setting up looks for his teammates. He’s also perfectly fine with his role coming off the bench, stating as much after his standout performance against North Carolina.
His versatility will prove critical for a roster I believe will take some time to find itself offensively early. DeVries can have Lindsay enter the game and ask him to either score or facilitate and feel good about his ability to do either, with him proving capable of filling in gaps on off nights for other members of the roster.
Indiana hasn’t had a strong bench option out of the backcourt in quite some time. We’ll have to see how it translates when the games count, but Lindsay gives them as good an option as the Hoosiers could’ve hoped for.
