The AEW schedule is stacked, and that has caused them to get creative in the world title picture. AEW hatched a new match concept called Clockwork Carnage to take place at the WrestleDream PPV.
Coming out of All In, Will Ospreay retained the AEW World Championship over Jon Moxley. Next week is Grand Slam France on Tuesday, October 6. Ospreay will defend the title against Kazuchika Okada in Paris. Two weeks time is WrestleDream on Saturday, October 17.
Tony Khan consulted Ospreay about making dreams
come true. What would be Ospreay’s dream match? Ospreay is fond of the Casino Gauntlet, so they tweaked that format to create Clockwork Carnage. For the sake of simplification, Clockwork Carnage is like the WWE/NXT Iron Survivor match with eliminations in the first half and scoring falls in the second half.
The rules for Clockwork Carnage sound more complicated than they are. Read through it a couple times, and it will all make sense.
- 8 wrestlers. Two stages. One winner.
- 2 wrestlers start the match selected at random
- Every 3 minutes, another randomly selected wrestler enters
- Until all 8 wrestlers have entered, any wrestler who is pinned or submits is eliminated
- Once the final wrestler enters, all remaining wrestlers enter a 15-minute scoring period
- During those 15 minutes, every pinfall or submission scores one fall
- When time expires, the wrestler with the most falls wins
