On Monday afternoon, Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier confirmed rumors that star DT Caleb Banks sustained a “longer term injury” in the LSU game.
A senior from Southfield, Michigan, Banks transferred to Florida in 2023 after 2 years at Louisville. He initially sustained a foot injury in fall camp, and missed the first 2 games of the 2025 season. Banks made his return to action last week against LSU, but was hurt again near the end of the 3rd quarter. He was helped off the field, and spotted on crutches and with a walking boot post-game.
While Banks was not listed on the injury report before the LSU game, the fact that he was on crutches and with a boot indicate a major injury and setback for the 6’6” DT, as confirmed by Napier.
Losing Banks is a major blow to the Gators’ defense. He’s one of the best interior defensive linemen on their roster, and was a preseason pick for 2nd team All-SEC. Banks recorded 21 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and four sacks in 2024, so his impact was impressive. There are other players on the roster with potential, but none with the combination of size, strength, and skill of Banks.
We’ll see how Florida addresses Banks’s absence when the Gators face the Canes on Saturday night.
