We’re in the endgame now for one of the top recruits in the class of 2026.
According to Rivals reporter Joe Tipton, 5-star point guard Tay Kinney will announce his college decision on September 28.
Kinney also gave a brief update on his recruitment and what he likes about Kentucky.
“Pope, he lets his guards play. They get out in transition, run, hoop. So, you know, I’m glad I could step in there and do the same. I like playing in transition,” Kinney told Tipton.
A Louisville native who now plays for
Overtime Elite, Kinney is ranked No. 15 overall in the 2026 class by Rivals, which also has him listed as the No. 3 point guard. His finalists include Louisville, Kansas, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Miami, Oregon, and Texas. However, Kinney canceled recent visits to Texas and Miami, so it appears they’re effectively out of the hunt.
Tipton adds that Kinney could still take an official visit to Arkansas before making a decision. The Hogs have been seen as a program that could make a move in this recruitment, but as we head down the stretch, Louisville and Kansas are considered the likeliest options.
Kentucky does not currently appear to be a major threat for Kinney and is making Deron Rippey Jr. more of a priority as far as 2026 point guards go.
