Athlon Bowl Projections
This week’s projections see Boise State in the LA Bowl, with Utah State going to the Potato Bowl. Elsewhere, Hawaii is in the Hawaii Bowl, and Fresno State is slotted for the First Responder Bowl. UNLV is somewhat surprisingly projected to be in the New Mexico Bowl, and very surprisingly, San Jose State is in the Arizona Bowl. Expect these to keep changing.
Murray Rankings.
Chris Murray is back for another week of rankings. He still has UNLV as the top team, with Fresno State and Boise State remaining in their spots as well. The Aztecs jump all the way to #4, with New Mexico dropping a spot. Utah State rounds out the top 6, with Hawaii, Wyoming and Air Force all dropping. The Spartans also drop a spot following their win, and then the bottom two teams are the same.
Are the Aggies MW title contenders?
Considering their hot start, it’s a valid question. Sitting at 3-1, they have seen the highest increase in computer rankings since the start of the season. Combined with many Mountain West teams not being as good as expected, and suddenly, Utah State is the fourth-highest team in the conference per the computer rankings. That makes them a candidate, albeit a dark horse type, to win the championship this season.
