Newcastle United travels to The Den on Tuesday for its Carabao Cup third-round matchup against Championship side Millwall, with a place in the fourth round at stake.
Matthias Jaissle’s side enters the match unbeaten in five competitive games this season. Newcastle advanced with a 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion in the second round before taking five points from its opening three Premier League matches.
The Magpies most recently recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth and previously
won 2-0 at Tottenham in their first away game of the season.
Dan Burn, Joelinton and William Osula remain unavailable through injury. Matias Fernandez-Pardo could make his first start since arriving from Lille, while Bazoumana Toure, Alfie Harrison and Aladji Bamba are among the other options if Jaissle truly rotates his lineup.
Millwall enters the tie seventh in the Championship after winning three of its opening five league matches. Alex Neil’s side beat Bolton 4-0 on Saturday after consecutive defeats to Southampton and Wrexham.
Millwall, however, has several injury absences, while Jenson Metcalfe is suspended following his red card against Bolton.

On Tino Livramento’s recovery and return to fitness:
“It is too early to say on Tino. He was partially involved [in training], so we need to be smart with his progress now.
“We need to wait until he is 100% ready. He has huge potential, and we can’t wait to have him back.”
On whether Livramento is ready to start against Millwall:
“No.”
On Joelinton’s injury recovery:
“Joelinton is out for a couple of weeks. I am really confident that he will be back as soon as possible.”
On selecting his team for the Carabao Cup match against Millwall:
“There’s always a fine line to make these decisions. I think it would be smart to wait and know how the lads are responding physically and mentally from that match, and then we have still a couple of days to make that decision. We want to come around further.
“We’re aware of the schedule, also what comes afterwards, but I think the physical level already from the lads are getting better and better.”
On Newcastle’s goalkeeping decision against Millwall after Ewen Jaouen’s injury:
“We’ll need to see [who plays]. There was a reason [Pope was on the bench], because Ewen was twisting his ankle [on Friday].
“Still a couple of days left to make the final decision on who’s then finally in the goal.”
