The NFL welcomed June with a blockbuster trade out of nowhere as the Cleveland Browns sent reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, pass-rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for a package of standout pass-rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second-round draft pick and a 2029 third-round draft pick.
Yeah, it was a biggie. Here are some quick thoughts on the deal from a Las Vegas Raiders’ perspective:
The Raiders have their own elite pass-rusher in Maxx Crosby. They, of
course, agreed to trade him to the Baltimore Ravens in March for two first-round picks, but, the deal was nixed when Baltimore backed up after Crosby’s phsyical.
The Browns got more compensation that Raiders’ agreed upon deal, but Garrett is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year winner and he is widely considered the most valuable defensive player in the league. Garrett is 30 and Crosby will be 29 in August. Garrett has 125.5 sacks in nine NFL seasons, while Crosby has 69.5 sacks in seven seasons.
While the Raiders are on the record saying they have no plans to deal Crosby, expect the never-dying trade rumors to kick up near the trade deadline if Crosby comes back, from his knee surgery, as expected and plays well and if the Raiders are not in playoff contention.
If will be interesting if the Raiders, if that scenario plays out, tries to get more than the Ravens’ deal after seeing what the Browns received for Garrett.
Meanwhile, the Raiders play both the Rams and the Browns this season. They host Garrett, who had three sacks against the Raiders last season, and the Rams in Week 7. They play against Verse and the Browns in Week 12.
