There is little for Blue Jays news or even rumours at the moment.
So I thought I’d ask for suggestions of baseball related books for Christmas. Or, for that matter, books of any sort.
There is a book “The Last Manager: How Earl Weaver Tricked, Tormented, and Reinvented Baseball“ that I’d like to get for Christmas. Weaver was one of those guys to whom I owe my baseball fandom. He got me interested in ways to build a roster, a batting order and just how to win games. I have his book Weaver on Strategy
and every now and then I re-read it.
And I have Keegan Matheson’s book the Franchise which was a nice read, which Dex reviewed here: https://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2025/6/30/24458535/book-review-the-franchise-by-keegan-matheson
Non-baseball books that I’ve been reading:
The Inner Game of Tennis, not that I’m ever going to be good at the game, but the tennis pro suggested. It talks about the mental game. Not getting down on yourself for a bad shot. Not judging your game as you are playing. As I often tell myself “Don’t think, it hurts the team” (from Bull Durham). Basically, it is telling you to get out of your head when you are on the court.
I’m currently reading Lady Joker Volume Two. The first one I read on holiday last year. It’s translated from Japanese, basically a study of the Japanese corporate culture, around the story of the kidnapping of a CEO. It’s long and focuses on the lives of the various people in the book.
And, far lighter, I’m reading the Paul McCartney book about Wings. I was a fan, well, still a fan, and it is nice to be reminded about music I listened to when I was younger.
Give us your suggestions for books to give and get for Christmas.
