Sebastian Fundora fields some media questions ahead of his upcoming weekend title defense against Ermal Hadribeaj and speaks about his desire for an undisputed title unification with the winner of Boots Ennis vs Josh Kelly, how he views a possible fight between Vergil Ortiz and Keith Thurman, and the future of his career. Check out some excerpts below.
Fundora on his desire to ultimately settle the division with Boots
“Absolutely. That’s the best fight at 154, me and him. Of course he still has to go through Kelly but if does beat Kelly, that’ll be the fight for
undisputed, and that’s the fight everybody wants, no?
“That’s the plan for next. I think that has to be the next fight, has to be. Everybody’s on DAZN, this fight that they’re going to be fighting next is going to be on DAZN as well. So, Fundora vs the winner for undisputed. I see it, it makes sense to me.
On a potential fight between Vergil Ortiz and Keith Thurman
“Good fight. We’ll see. Thurman’s still crafty. I mean, he’s fighting a 6’6” guy [against me], of course he’s going to have some disadvantages. But then you have Vergil Ortiz, which is kind of similar in height and now his experience kind of plays well with him because he’s been in there with people like that before. He thinks Vergil’s one-dimensional, just a come forward type of fighter and if he’s comfortable with fighters like that then…”
On how long he thinks he can fight at 154
“I ate breakfast today, I ate an omelette, I ate hash browns — I weigh 161. That’ll answer your question.”
