After a shaky first game and a half, the Denver Broncos finally turned in a winning performance against the Jaguars on Sunday. When budding narratives about the defense, Bo Nix, and Davis Webb began cast doubt on the positives from last season and hopes for this one, this first win of the season didn’t come a moment too soon.
As Broncos fans, we collectively seemed to share this expectation that Denver would simply pick up where it left off last season, seconds before Bo Nix broke his ankle. Sure,
the narrative made sense: The Broncos returned most of their 2025 squad during free agency and upgraded where the team needed it most, the high-octane receiving threat that is Jaylen Waddle.
The less-than-stellar first 6-quarters of Broncos football to start 2026 were a reminder of just how difficult this game is. It’s a reminder of just how hard the players, coaches, and staff work to achieve the high level of success that’s a hallmark of Broncos football in Denver.
What Broncos Country saw in the second half on Sunday was also a reminder — that patience and perseverance pays off. There will be highs and lows, but it’s important to manage those peaks and valleys, to not get so wrapped up in the momentary struggles that we get so annoyed we miss something special happening right before our eyes, much like the 17-0 run the Broncos rode to victory on Sunday over the Jags. It’s that growth that makes triumph possible. It’s that triumph that makes this game so damn special.
Sure, when the product on the field looks like it did for the first 6-quarters of this young season, it’s natural to be frustrated and disappointed. Remember, though, it’s a long 17-game season and those struggles will may be a distant memory or may seem marginal compared whatever this season has in store. Finding out is what makes the season so exciting.
Have expectations. Be emotional. Cheer your ass off and swear at your television. The Denver Broncos got their first win of the season on Sunday and it felt so damn good. The good news is that there are other wins right behind it, probably quite a few more. Sit back, buckle in, and let’s all enjoy the ride. Who knows, maybe when it’s all said and done, the ride could conclude on Super Bowl Sunday in Los Angeles.
