For a second straight week, the Green Bay Packers are playing in a game where the over/under on total points is set at 52.5. Last week, the team’s matchup with the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field stayed well under the total, thanks in large part to an excellent effort by Jonathan Gannon’s defense. This week, however, could be a very different story.
On Sunday afternoon, the Packers play the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, a venue that has been the site of several high-scoring games between these two
teams in recent years. FanDuel Sportsbook has the total points line set at 52.5 once again, the highest line for a game between these two teams since 2020, when it was set at a whopping 55.5. But since 2020, these two teams have generally scored early and often on the fast turf in Detroit:
- 2020: Packers win 31-24 (total: 55)
- 2021: Lions win 37-30 (total: 67)
- 2022: Lions win 15-9 (total: 24)
- 2023: Packers win 29-22 (total: 51)
- 2024: Lions win 34-31 (total: 65)
- 2025: Packers win 31-24 (total: 55)
That’s five of the last six games between these two teams in this venue going over 50 points, with four of them hitting 55 or more and two of them reaching a whopping 65 points. It’s just what these teams do — well, except for in 2022, a game that was a bizarre defensive slugfest. But look at those results starting in 2023, when Jordan Love took over at quarterback — the Packers haven’t scored fewer than 29 points at Ford Field with him behind center.
Who will win the game? That’s less certain, as the results above show, with the two teams each taking three of the last six games at Ford Field. APC is a bit split on this one, as you’ll see in our picks below. But one thing we’re not split on is taking the over. Given the Packers’ issues defending against an elite running back earlier this year — and considering Jahmyr Gibbs is certainly in the Bijan Robinson echelon — plus the Lions’ abysmal passing defense, this game should shape up to be a wild one.
Here are our picks for Sunday’s game, and give us your predictions in the comments!
