Newcastle United are not preparing for an immediate change of manager despite ongoing pressure following recent results, with no indication that Eddie Howe will either be sacked or leave on his own in the short term.
The club’s current focus remains on stabilizing performances during the final stretch of the season, and Howe is seemingly working with the squad and even planning for the summer.
The messages from inside have been consistent in pointing toward avoiding any rushed decisions regarding Howe’s
future, but speculation around a potential change has led to questions about contingency plans, including who would take charge on an interim basis if the situation were to shift unexpectedly.
However, that scenario is not currently part of Newcastle’s plans.
“I do not expect Howe to leave this week — there is no indication whatsoever that he will, with the head coach focused and determined to turn things around,” Chris Waugh reported in a Q&A for The Athletic. “The message from the Newcastle hierarchy is they will not act rashly and make a change imminently.”
Waugh added that any discussion around a caretaker role remains hypothetical at this stage, with no internal communication outlining a defined plan.
“Graeme Jones was there before Howe and is a Newcastle-led appointment, so he may assume the interim role he previously undertook,” Waugh reported. “Theoretically, Jason Tindall could step up, too, given he has a contract, although Howe’s long-term assistant may leave straightaway alongside him.
“It’s all hypothetical, because the position becoming vacant immediately is not something which is currently being considered.”
Newcastle are expected to reassess the managerial situation at the end of the season, with any decision likely to follow a broader review of the club’s direction.
