The final month of the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season has arrived at last, and the Colorado Rockies have 25 games remaining on their schedule. The Rockies need just one more loss to reach the century mark for the third straight season, while on the flip-side they need just three wins to avoid the record for worst 162-game season.
The Rockies kick off the month by hosting the 68-69 San Francisco Giants for a three-game set. The Giants have under-performed this season, but are still within
reach of a coveted wild card spot. The Rockies could play a little spoiler and help put those hopes to bed.
On the mound for the Rockies is Chase Dollander for his 20th big league start of the season. Dollander has struggled with command and efficiency in his rookie campaign, but he’s also coming off one of the best starts of his young career. His last time out against the Houston Astros he gave up just one earned run and struck out seven batters through six innings of work. He threw 98 pitches and gave up just three hits, but did walk four batters.
Making the start for the Giants is right-handed Taiwanese rookie Kai-Wei Teng. Teng, 26, has mostly worked out of the bullpen this season for the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. However, he is primarily a starter and has done so in three of his four big league appearances with the Giants this season. He has an 8.78 ERA over 13 1/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and nine walks.
Teng has performed well in Triple-A this season. In 26 appearances over 57 innings he’s posted a 3.63 ERA with 89 strikeouts. He utilizes a sweeping slider as his primary pitch that he pairs with a four seam fastball in the low-to-mid 90s. He also throws a curveball, a changeup, and a sinker. He will be facing the Rockies for the first time.
