It’s another action-packed day in the WPBL with the third and final doubleheader of the inaugural season taking over the field at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Ill.
It’s already been a fun week heading
into today’s games. With a thrilling three-run rally in the bottom of the six inning that was anchored by a two-run single from Jamie Mackay, the L.A. Queens came back to beat the San Francisco Firebells 6-8 on Friday night.
On Thursday night, the New York Heights beat the Boston Hunters 9-4. On Wednesday, New York beat San Francisco 11-8.
Off the field, there was also a trade between the L.A. Queens and New York Heights.
Game 1
Up first, the Firebells (5-4) will take on the Hunters (3-5). This will be the first showdown between the two teams since the second day of play on Aug. 2 when San Francisco won 11-3.
Boston is lead on the mound by Gigi Schiano, who is 1-1 on five appearances with a 3.60 ERA with five strikeouts in 15 innings. At the plate and in the field, infielder Denver Bryant is proving to be very entertaining to watch for the Hunters. She leads the team with five RBIs.
Kelsie Whitmore is a force at the plate with seven homers and 19 RBI to lead the Firebells. Whitmore also leads the Firebells in innings pitched with 15 over four starts. She is 1-1 with a 7.80 ERA.
