There are several reasons for the 49ers to bring in Clowney. One is his early down production. At one point last season, he had the fourth-highest pressure rate on early downs. He’s always been known as a plus-run defender, but consistently getting after the quarterback will always get you noticed.

During the same span when he had the fourth-highest pressure rate, Clowney ranked 102nd among all edge rushers in average get-off time. The addition of Romello Height suggests a strong get-off time is something Raheem Morris values, which is why the team might not go out and sign Clowney.
The plan was to play devil’s advocate for some of these, but Spartan83 speaks for everybody with this answer:
Commission a study to understand what it would take to retrofit Levi’s Stadium with an overhanging roof structure that provides sufficient shade for fans on the opposite side of the luxury box suites (so instead of squinting and frying to death from the sun during afternoon games they can actually have an enjoyable experience for their $500+ tickets).
Note to Jed: Next time, before spending >$1 billion to construct a stadium, perhaps pay four dudes $100 each to sit in a couple of lawn chairs for three hours between 1-4 PM, face each of them in different directions, then see how they react to the bright California sunshine. Heck, even throw in a six pack of beer and a few nachos while they’re sitting there. Then, and only then, decide which direction the stadium should be built on the property you own. (No charge for the consulting advice.)
After the study is completed, I’d assess whether it makes more sense to retrofit the existing stadium vs. building a new one within a reasonable time frame (preferably far away from an electrical substation). 🙂
If you’ve never been to Levi’s Stadium, “frying to death” is an apt way to put what it’s like to be on the opposite side of the seats of the press box. You’re baking in the sun, and there’s not much you can do about it. Inevitably, that detracts from your gaming experience.
There were other retroactive moves to be made. For example, Gitaroo_dude said he’d fire anybody who approved the Jake Moody pick in 2023.
Acquiring Maxx Crosby came up. But there was some pushback against making reactionary moves in response to the Rams acquiring Myles Garrett and potentially getting Aaron Donald back.
