Robin Roefs: 5/10
Made a good save low to his right in the first half where he pushed the ball wide but beaten by two good finishes. Kicking seems to have deserted him.
Thomas Meunier: 5/10
Although this is not saying much, I thought he was one of our better players in the first half. Looked solid defensively and was keen to get forward, clipping the post with a cross that just evaded Isidor and Fofana.
Kevin Danso: 4/10
Seems to be severely lacking in confidence, looked all over the place in the first half and struggled to make the right decision. Improved
in the second half and hit the bar but
Omar Alderete: 4/10
Looks well off the player he was last season, doesn’t seem to be working well with any of the centre back partners he is lining up alongside. Played a really nice diagonal ball to Angulo in the first half but still off the pace.
Dayann Methalie: 4/10
Struggled a bit tonight, the visitors moved the ball around him a little too easily and had some heavy touches when he tried to get forward.
Granit Xhaka (C): 3/10
Made loads of little errors throughout the game, trying overly risky balls that would either set them or us on the counter. Left far too much room in midfield in the first half but got back a bit better in the second, with those errors remaining in his game. Looks at least a step short this season.
Jules Ahoka: 5/10
Probably should have scored with a header early on, got around the pitch well but didn’t think he worked well with Xhaka, leaving too many gaps in central midfield.
Nilson Angulo: 6/10
Worked his socks off tonight and put in plenty of effort, pretty much no end product though and does not look comfortable on the right.
Chris Rigg: 4/10
Put a lovely cross onto Ahoka’s head early on and slid in Isidor for a chance later in the half but thought he took the easy option too often and was usually too far away from Isidor.
Malick Fofana: 5/10
Some nice little runs and touches here and there, keeps the ball well but only gets the ball when he’s either surrounded or miles away from goal.
Wilson Isidor: 4/10
Didn’t look particularly fit or sharp, had a few half chances in decent positions but barely made contact with any of his attempts.
Substitutes
Trai Hume: 5/10
Came close with an effort in the second half but his game is littered with loose passes in the last few games.
Reinildo: 6/10
Came close from point blank range after getting onto the end of a set piece and gave us a bit more aggression off the ball.
Enzo Le Fee: 5/10
Tried really hard to get us going in forward areas but another who looks devoid of confidence, with passes and touches going astray.
Noah Sadiki: 6/10
Gave us more energy in the middle of the pitch and was always on the move, getting up the left flank regularly.
Brian Brobbey: 6/10
Thought he was unlucky not to win a penalty after being dragged down, then came close with an effort when he chested a Xhaka ball down and forced a save.
Man of the Match: Nilson Angulo
Can’t fault his effort today, never stopped working and tried over and over again to make something happen but just doesn’t look at home on the right flank and doesn’t seem natural for him to go down the outside or whip a cross in.
