The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their decisions on three players who will remain with the team as it finalizes its 53-man roster.
According to Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are keeping rookie running back Eli Heidenreich, along with defensive tackles Kevin Jobity Jr. and Gabriel Rubio, as part of the team’s final roster.
Heidenreich’s inclusion is particularly noteworthy after the undrafted rookie made a strong impression throughout the preseason.
The former Navy
standout entered training camp facing an uphill battle in a crowded running back room, but his versatility and playmaking ability helped him separate himself from the competition. Heidenreich showed an ability to contribute both as a runner and kick returner, while also demonstrating the kind of effort and physicality that can earn a young player opportunities on special teams.
The Steelers traded former 3rd round pick Kaleb Johnson to the Green Bay Packers earlier today, in a move that potentially opened up a roster spot for the 2026 7th round pick.
The Steelers’ decision to retain Jobity and Rubio also provides additional depth along the defensive line, but Heidenreich may be the most intriguing of the three decisions given his rise throughout the preseason.
