First Period
This!
Was a fairly back and forth period! Nearly 10 shots for both sides! But both goalies were up to the task…right up until the late period, when Michael Eyssimont got a shot through Dan Vladar who had ended up losing their stick as the forecheck was working it’s magic, and Mikey got a piece of a Frederic Brunet shot! 1-0 Bruins!
Unfortunately, those who know the Sway know that there’s at least 1-2 goals that will be given up regardless of opponent talent, as that is part of the deal of getting to
a .930+ SV%, and as such Jacob Goucher went on a break against Max Guenette, and well…let’s say Goucher had good body position the whole way. 1-1 Everybody.
Of course, that’s all the scoring. The big scuttlebutt after this game was that Dan Vladar had to leave the rink quickly and for the rest of the game after, at least from what the broadcast thought was the moment of injury, when Tanner Jannot’s skate hit Vladar’s arm while trying to make a stop; the kind of thing that could happen a half-dozen times per game that unfortunately ended with a former Bruin on the shelf. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.
No further scoring, and it’s on to the second.
Second Period
What, the period? Nothing happened in it. They didn’t even call a penalty. The radio broadcast was talking about the new gear players are supposed to wear because we don’t want a player to bleed out at some point between here and the start of the third. Go to the next one.
Third Period
It was at this point that the fact that Aleksei Kolosov, a real person with hockey pads and a career .830 SV%, suddenly realized he was in fact going to be in this one for the long haul, and this was the wrong collection of Flyers players to handle it.
He may have realized it during any one of the following goals:
A Morgan Geekie redirect after David Pastrnak faked out just about everybody with a shot…
Brian Halonen being johnny on the spot in front of the net and popping home a rebound…
Elias Lindholm going on an extended tour of the offensive zone; something I sincerely hope he remembers…
…and Michael Eyssimont’s one timer after Dans Locmelis saw him completely undefended as the game was winding down.
…All I can say is let’s hope Dan’s arm is just knicked, because otherwise good luck, buddy.

Game Notes
- Your TOI Leader was Connor Clifton, who played 23:15
- A mildly sedate game after the unfortunate injury to Dan Vladar. The Tanner Jannot impact with him seems so routine and yet, like in every part of the sport, you never know what hit will be the one that breaks the body. It’s a shame, he was playing pretty well too. For his sake, let’s hope he’s just gonna show off a bunch of stitches at practice and that he’s gonna heal up nicely.
- It should not shock you at all that a primarily veteran staffed Bruins squad absolutely dominated the shot attempts in this game, nor should it shock you that the B’s largely controlled the 5v5 play. What should be a glowing positive is that the depth guys seemed to enjoy their time playing against the Flyers in the same way David Pastrnak usually does, as a lot of the bottom six were clearly eating the Orange and Black alive. Very glowing reviews go to Dans Locmelis, Michael Eyssimont, and Frederic Brunet for their dominating performances at evens and all of them having that effort rewarded on the scoresheet!
- A very confusing little bit of info from this game analytically is that apparently if you neither contribute shot attempts, nor do any shot attempts against happen to you while you are on-ice, NaturalStatTrick opts not to call that 50% and also a day; they just don’t give you anything. Hampus Lindholm played 16 minutes of this one at evens and somehow managed to have that happen to him. He even had an assist on the Geekie goal and still. Funny little quirks of accounting on that.
- I am quite happy for Elias Lindholm showing a lot of dynamism in the late game, because this team is going to Need That from him in a way he probably wasn’t expecting last year.
- Jeremy Swayman had a .952 SV%; something that he absolutely earned and was once again a highlight. I suppose it’ll have to do; we’ll have to get used to something like that in both winning and losing efforts…I guess.
- Seriously though, if Dan Vladar, who in many ways was the best Flyer last year, is out for any length of time, a lot of that team’s inadequacies are about to become extremely apparent. Get well soon, Dan.
The preseason rolls on against a likely more veteran laden version of the Flyers, who they will be meeting tomorrow. That game drops the puck at 7pm EST, and from what I’ve learned can be viewed on ESPN+ as well as NESN+.
