Boston College will enter its bye week after a battle with SMU.
The Eagles fought hard until the end during a 25-16 loss to the Mustangs to enter the week off at 2-3 with two losses in ACC play.
For a team that needs to get healthy, the bye week came at a good time for the Eagles. It also allows Bill O’Brien and the coaching staff to prepare for the long haul of seven straight games to end the year.
With all that being said, is there any reason to feel good about this team?
The answer might be yes.
Of
course, winning is the biggest thing but it needs to be looked at with different eyes after a 2-10 season. This does not feel like the Eagles of last year. After a lopsided performance again Cincinnati to begin the year, it seems as though Boston College has gotten better each week.
Mason McKenzie seems to be getting more comfortable in the ACC after coming over as a Division II transfer from Saginaw Valley State. He played an incredible game on Saturday in the team’s biggest test going 20-for-31 for 208 yards and two touchdowns. He added 74 yards on the ground on 21 carries.
Defensively, the front has played well beyond its level from last season.
There are areas that need to be cleaned up, including tackling, dropped passes, and penalties, but these are areas that can be hammered home in practice and in the meeting room. On the field, the Eagles are competing.
What hurts the team as well is injuries. Brady Clough has only played two games this season while the defense is missing Bodie Kahoun and Syair Torrence.
Boston College now has two weeks to get healthy before an Oct. 17 meeting with Pitt, which is an important game on the schedule. It feels difficult to find four more wins to earn a spot in bowl season, especially with Notre Dame and Miami at the end, but there is reason to believe that the Eagles can at least double their win total from last season.
Do you see two wins, or even more, on the remaining schedule for Boston College?
