Newcastle United are reportedly focusing on signing young overseas attackers as they look to replace Anthony Gordon following his move to Barcelona.
According to The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, Osasuna forward Victor Munoz is one of the players most admired by Newcastle, with the 22-year-old named in Spain’s 2026 World Cup squad and having a €40million release clause.
“Victor Munoz, the highly rated Osasuna forward who has been named in Spain’s World Cup squad, is admired,” Waugh wrote.
The report adds
that Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring Munoz, with Madrid retaining options to buy him, which means it will be a hellaciously tough task to convince him to move to Tyneside over any of those other mammoth clubs.
Waugh also confirmed a report originally published by the Daily Mail, revealing that Newcastle indeed asked about AIK winger Zadok Yohanna, an 18-year-old who had attracted interest from across Europe, with Chelsea and Brighton. Ultimately, however, Yohanna chose Brighton and the Seagulls announced his arrival on Saturday.
Newcastle are also reportedly watching Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure, Koln’s Said El Mala and Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli.
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen is known to be admired by Eddie Howe, but Waugh reported that a move for the relegated forward is viewed as unlikely because of his age and many suitors, while reports of interest in Barcelona’s Marcus Rashford in a sort of Gordon swap were outright dismissed.
According to Waugh, whoever Newcastle end up signing, he’ll likely fit the 18-to-24-year-old gap and a profile of play that brings pace, intensity, pressing ability and positional adaptability to the Magpies heading into the 2026-27 season.
Waugh reported that Newcastle are confident they can bring “at least one exciting attacker” to Tyneside, but the club do not want to rush into bidding wars before the World Cup, with most activity expected to happen afterward.
