Mexico has named the squad for the 2025 U20 World Cup to be taking place in Chile from September 27th to October 19th. Coach Eduardo Arce named the 21 player squad that will take part in the return of Mexico to a U20 World Cup after missing out on the 2023 Edition. Mexico has one of the better teams it has had for a U20 World Cup but are placed in the Group of death, Group C
The call up list was the following:
- Goalkeepers: Emmanuel Ochoa (Cruz Azul), Pablo Lara (Pumas), Juan Liceaga (Chivas)
- Defenders: Jose Pachuca (Puebla), Diego Ochoa (FC Juarez), Everardo Lopez (Toluca), Jaziel Mendoza (Cruz Azul), Cesar Bustos (Monterrey)
- Midfielders: Gilberto Mora (Tijuana), Obed Vargas (Seattle Sounders), Elias Montiel (Pachuca), Cesar Garza (Dundee FC), Iker Fimbres (Monterrey), Amaury Morales (Cruz Azul), Diego Sanchez (Tigres)
- Forwards: Hugo Camberos (Chivas), Tahiel Jimenez (Santos), Yael Padilla (Chivas), Mateo Levy (Cruz Azul), Oswaldo Virgen (Toluca), Alexei Dominguez (Pachuca)
The most notable omissions are Stephano Carrillo and Heriberto Jurado. Both players were
not given permission from the Euro teams to play in the tournament, which is in a non FIFA date and thus they weren’t forced to release players. Of the surprises, Xavier Biscayzacu (Defensor Sporting) and Francisco Mendez (Chivas) both didn’t make the list after a good tournament in the U20 CONCACAF Championship. In terms of surprises, there really weren’t any as Gilberto Mora and Obed Vargas had been announced that they would be taking part in the tournament, which caused neither of them to be called up for the Senior team’s friendlies against Japan and South Korea.
Mexico will travel to Paraguay before the tournament starts to face off in friendlies against Colombia and Saudi Arabia. From there they will travel to Chile where they will make their tournament debut against Brazil on September 28th in the Estadio Nacional in Santiago. They will then face another extremely tough match against Spain on October 1st in the same stadium before traveling to Valparaiso where they will close out their group stage on October 4th against Morocco. The first two teams in the Group will qualify to the Round of 16 along with the four best 3rd place finishers in the Group stage.
