Player Ratings: Real Sociedad 1 – 2 Real Madrid
Thibaut Courtois: 8. Only had to make three saves, but two of them on Mikel Oyarzabal were massive. Ensured Real Madrid survived the onslaught.
Dani Carvajal: 7.5.
Held his own defensively and played two incredible passes into Mbappe in the box: one for the disallowed goal, and another shortly after where he should’ve had an assist. A game-high seven clearances.Éder Militão: 8.5. Stalwart. Several big defensive interventions and a constant threat on set-pieces.
Dean Huijsen: 6. The red card he received
was incorrect, so you can’t blame him for that. But he did make a risky challenge nonetheless and didn’t play enough minutes to warrant a higher grade.
Álvaro Carreras: 7.5. Very active in the team’s build-up phase and solid in his 1v1 defending.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 8. “The Pillar” strikes again. Aerially dominant, and threw his body on the line to block shots.
Dani Ceballos: 7.5. Very good defensively in the first half and played a brilliant through-ball to Vinícius just before half-time. Ran out of gas in the second half.
Arda Güler: 8.5. His set-pieces were perfect. Had yet another goal disallowed this week, but scored the game-winner.
Brahim Díaz: 6.5. Quiet in the first half before being subbed off at half-time. Seems to excel more coming off the bench.
Vinícius Jr.: 7. Worked hard defensively but struggled in the final third. Not sharp enough offensively.
Kylian Mbappé: 9. Unstoppable. One goal, one assist, and seven completed dribbles — the most of anyone in the Big Five leagues in a single game this season.
Substitutes
Fede Valverde: 6.5. Should’ve done better to defend in the build-up to Real Madrid conceding the penalty. Looked a bit off after returning from South America and international duty.
Raúl Asencio: 7. Strong defending in the box to help close the game.
Fran García: 6.5. Playing as a left-winger, couldn’t really help Real Madrid’s transition offense after coming on.
Trent Alexander-Arnold / David Alaba: N/A.
