FC Barcelona has made its move to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final. The plan puts the city of Barcelona in the spotlight, as Spotify Camp Nou could once again be the stage of the biggest club
game in the world, though UEFA still has to give the green light.
In a statement, the club said, “FC Barcelona hereby formally expresses its intention to participate, together with Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, in the initial bidding process to host the 2029 Champions League Final.”
UEFA now has the first batch of documents to start checking whether Barcelona’s bid ticks all the boxes. The full, final dossier is expected by June.
City officials have already signed the Host City Agreement, showing they’re serious about bringing the final home. The Catalan government has also backed the bid, calling it “the strongest possible option” for 2029.
If it comes off, the Champions League would return to Camp Nou for the first time since 1999, when Bayern Munich faced Manchester United in a memorable final which was won by the English side in injury time. The stadium, set for a full renovation before 2029, promises modern facilities without losing the legendary atmosphere of that has made Barcelona’s home so iconic for so long.
UEFA’s Executive Committee will make the final call in September 2026, with London’s Wembley Stadium also in the running.
In addition, according to reports, the Royal Spanish Football Federation is considering Camp Nou as a potential venue for the 2030 World Cup final, which Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will co-host.
