According to a report from Portuguese outlet SIC Notícias (as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER), Bayern Munich and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of defensive midfielder João Palhinha:
Bayern and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of João Palhinha. Benfica will pay 15 million € + an additional 5 million € upon achieving certain targets. The move is expected to be completed shortly.
Benfica re-emerged on to the scene as a serious contender for Palhinha in recent days and
could be very close to bringing the Portuguese 31-year-old back to his homeland.
While Aston Villa and Newcastle United were also rumored to be interested, but that has cooled — allegedly — because of Bayern Munich’s asking price.
Palhinha’s Bayern Munich career has obviously not gone according to plan. Signed from Fulham in 2024 for a significant fee, the Portuguese midfielder struggled to establish himself as a regular under Vincent Kompany and made just 25 appearances before spending last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur.
Palhinha is firmly on Bayern Munich’s transfer list, with board member for sport Max Eberl confirming the club wants a permanent sale.
This chapter of Palhinha’s career appears to be nearing its end.
