The cutdowns roll on in Foxborough.
The New England Patriots have parted ways tight end Jack Westover and linebacker Chad Muma ahead of the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline on Sunday, per reports from Doug Kyedof the Boston Herald.
Both suited up for Super Bowl LX. Both move forward as candidates for practice squad.
Westover, 27, had been retained as an exclusive rights free agent after operating as the eventual AFC champions’ converted fullback. Originally entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with
the Seattle Seahawks, the former University of Washington tight end headed to Foxborough on the practice squad in 2024. Standard elevations and a promotion active roster followed by the close of his rookie campaign. The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder went on to appear in every game in 2025 while making four starts and catching two passes. He played 317 snaps on offense and 238 snaps on special teams over that span.
Muma, 27, was signed off the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts last December and proceeded to record seven tackles through seven games, including postseason. The 6-foot-3, 239-pound linebacker entered the NFL in the third round of the 2022 draft at No. 70 overall. He his initial three years in the league with the Jacksonville Jaguars before staying in the AFC South via the waiver wire last August. Through 58 games in the regular season, including seven starts, the Wyoming product has seen 746 snaps on defense and 954 snaps on special teams. His career spans 103 tackles, 1.5 sacks and three passes defensed.
Head coach Mike Vrabel’s locker room went from 91 to 73 players on the eve of the NFL’s deadline. And on Sunday, defensive tackle Eric Gregory and outside linebacker Bradyn Swinson became the first reported departures.
Active rosters around the league will stand at 53 by 6 p.m. ET.
