And here we are again.
This time the Huskers lead 7-6 instead of trailing by that score, but, just like last Friday, the game has been turned into a vacant lot mud fight by their opponent, which one would
think will play right into Northwestern’s hands, especially given how Nebraska reacted to a similar situation last weekend.
On its face, things are pretty even including the time of possession which is sitting around a 16-14 edge for the Wildcats. The difference is what they’re doing with their long drives. Northwestern gained only 9 yards on their first one, but at least converted their next two into field goals.
Nebraska rolled down the field for a touchdown on the game’s opening possession but did nothing with jaunts of 40 and 51 yards missing a 40 yard field goal on the first and squandering the ball away on the next as Dylan Raiola lost the handle after scrambling for a first down. Given the tightness of their contests historically, one wonders if we will miss those potential 6-10 points come the 4th quarter.
Emmett Johnson ran with purpose carrying 12 times for 65 yards and the game’s only touchdown, but the question on every Husker fan’s mind right now is how will the team react in the 2nd half this week?
