Barcelona sporting director Deco has been asked to name the one player that he’s come closest to signing without being able to get the deal over the line.
Deco has been involved in plenty of transfer negotiations since coming back to the club to work as the sporting director and says Jonathan Tah was one player he had hoped to bring to Camp Nou.
“Very advanced… There were advanced conversations about Jonathan Tah, for example, and it didn’t happen,” he told Sport.
Barcelona were linked repeatedly with
Tah in 2024, with reports claiming the transfer was “practically closed” before the deal collapsed completely.
Tah went on to move to Bayern Munich on a free transfer last summer and has become a regular in the team under manager Vincent Kompany.
The rumor mill claimed that Barca’s continued financial issues were a major reason why the Catalans ended up missing out on Tah as they did not have space to register him in the squad.
