The United States Men’s National Team hit the field tonight in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 to face Belgium in Seattle. The USMNT hope to keep the momentum train going, and they hope Lumen Field can once again become an American fortress.
The USMNT was boosted yesterday by the surprise news that forward Folarin Balogun’s red card suspension had been suspended for a one year probationary period, making him available to play tonight. That decision may be controversial, but it has also provided a boost to the USMNT as the player
who has led the team in goals thus far is able to play in a pivotal knockout stage match. Belgium has been granted the opportunity to appeal the decision by FIFA, but there’s no guarantee a decision will be made by kickoff.
Belgium had to work hard to come from behind to beat Senegal after 120 minutes, but they have star power. They haven’t played well in this tournament, and the U.S. hopes they can continue to keep The Red Devils frustrated and out of sorts with their play. Finally, the hope is that the wave coupled with the home field advantage will be what spurs the United States to victory and a trip to the quarterfinals.
