The 2026 season has come to its conclusion, and with it, the chaos that is the NCAA transfer portal has officially opened. While teams navigate the Mountain West-Pac-12 split, I will be keeping track of who teams lose and gain through the portal window. Outlook: Nevada’s depleted pitching core saw another addition on Thursday, as Iowa State’s Samantha Potvin joined the Pack for the upcoming season. Potvin was once the Cyclones’ most promising pitching prospect, notably tossing the first perfect game by an ISU pitcher in over 40 years during her freshman season (2025). That season, Potvin ended with a 6.59 ERA across 28.2 innings of work, a number heavily inflated by a few disastrous relief appearances against elite Big 12 competition. Potvin’s 2026 season was used as a medical redshirt, leaving her with three years of eligibility remaining to start her career with her new team. Nevada’s coaching staff has become accustomed to getting the most out of transfer pitchers during the past few seasons, so I am intrigued to see how Potvin, along with fellow transfer Annika Hollingsworth, perform in 2027 for the Pack.
