The New England Patriots will have reinforcements on hand at Lumen Field.
The 2025 AFC champions elevated running back Lan Larison and punter Mitch Wishnowsky from the practice squad in the hours leading up to Wednesday’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
Larison, 24, had been waived and retained on the practice squad after going unclaimed at the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline. The 5-foot-11, 209-pound running back is now set to make his official debut on a Week 1 Patriots depth chart that
includes starter Rhamondre Stevenson and trade acquisition Corey Kiner.
Originally entering the league as part of the 2025 undrafted class in Foxborough, Larison redshirted his rookie year on injured reserve after sustaining a foot injury. The UC Davis product went on to total 39 rushing yards, 79 receiving yards, as well as 78 kickoff return yards during his sophomore summer while scoring his second preseason touchdown.
Wishnowsky, 34, joined the initial practice squad after being released by the Buffalo Bills at the NFL’s cutdown deadline in August. The right-footed veteran stands 105 games into his career. Recording a long of 74 yards, he has averaged 45.5 yards per punt and 40.9 net yards per punt while also serving as a holder and kickoff specialist.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft at No. 110 overall, Wishnowsky spent his first six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before beginning last campaign on the practice squad of the Washington Commanders. The former unanimous All-American and Ray Guy Award winner made collegiate stops at Santa Barbara City College and the University of Utah.
Both elevations are scheduled to revert to the practice squad following the Super Bowl LX rematch. Both now have two standard call-ups remaining before requiring a move to the 53-man roster to take the field.
The Patriots ruled out running back TreVeyon Henderson due to an ankle injury on the final injury report. And with punter Bryce Baringer on injured reserve, kicker Andy Borregales and long snapper Julian Ashby check in as the lone specialists on the active roster to begin September.
Wednesday’s kickoff at Lumen Field is set for 8:20 p.m. ET.
