The English Premier League Gameweek 4 gave us plenty to talk about, with Arsenal maintaining their perfect start to the season and staying at the top of the table. Some of the other big teams, however, dropped points during another busy weekend of action.
Manchester City claimed bragging rights in the Manchester derby with a narrow win over Manchester United, while Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United picked up impressive victories.
Chelsea were also held by Hull City, adding another surprise result
to the weekend.
With four rounds now completed, some teams are starting to make a strong impression while others have raised more questions. There were also standout performances, unexpected results and a few issues that could shape what comes next.
Here are the biggest talking points and takeaways from Gameweek 4:
Arsenal assets continue to stand out
Arsenal remain one of the most reliable teams for Fantasy Premier League managers after another strong result. Their 2-0 win over Sunderland made it four wins from four, while they also kept another clean sheet.
David Raya was one of the standout performers after saving a penalty, while Bukayo Saka scored from the spot. Arsenal’s defence has also continued to look strong, making their defenders and goalkeeper attractive options for managers looking for reliable points.
The same can be said about their attacking players, Arsenal have shown that they can deliver at both ends of the pitch, which makes their key players difficult to overlook as we move into the next few Gameweeks.
Chelsea remain an attractive attacking option
Chelsea were unable to beat newly promoted Hull City, but the 2-2 draw should not completely change how FPL managers view their attacking players.
The Blues have shown plenty of potential going forward, and Joao Pedro continued that trend by scoring and providing an assist against Hull City. Their attacking options remain attractive, even though their defensive performances have caused some concern.
For FPL managers, the main question is whether Chelsea can turn their attacking threat into more consistent results. Their next few fixtures should give us a better idea of which players are worth keeping in our plans.
Brighton’s big win puts more players on the radar
Fabian Hurzeler’s men produced one of the biggest results of the weekend by beating Coventry City 5-0. It was a dominant display and naturally put several of their players on the radar.
Pascal Grob was the standout performer, scoring once and providing two assists. Other Brighton players also picked up useful FPL returns, giving managers more options to consider.
However, it is important not to make a transfer simply because a player had one big Gameweek. Brighton’s upcoming fixtures, along with each player’s role and minutes, should also be considered before making a move.
Morgan Gibbs-White continues to impress
Morgan Gibbs-White is another player who is starting to attract more attention after Nottingham Forest‘s 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
The midfielder provided an assist and continued his strong start to the season. His involvement in Forest’s attacking play makes him an interesting option for managers looking beyond the most popular midfield picks.
His next few fixtures could make him even more appealing, especially if he continues to play an important role for Nottingham Forest. For now, he is certainly a player worth keeping an eye on.
Liverpool’s attack raises some questions
Liverpool were another team expected to deliver in Gameweek 4, but they could only manage a goalless draw against Fulham.
The result was frustrating for managers who backed their attacking players, particularly with Liverpool playing at home. Their lack of goals also gives FPL managers a reason to look at their options more carefully.
That does not mean Liverpool players should be sold after one disappointing result. However, with other attacking options starting to emerge, their performances in the next few Gameweeks will be important.
Tottenham continue to struggle for goals
Tottenham Hotspur‘s 0-0 draw with Everton was another frustrating result for FPL managers. Roberto De Zerbi’s side have now failed to score in their opening four league matches, which is a major concern for their attacking players.
That makes Tottenham’s forwards and midfielders difficult to trust at the moment. Their defence could still offer some value, but managers looking for goals and assists may have better options elsewhere.
Tottenham will need to find a way to improve in front of goal soon. Until that happens, FPL managers may be better off waiting before investing in their attacking players.
Leeds United provide another talking point
Leeds United‘s 4-1 win over Newcastle United was another result that caught the attention of FPL managers. Their attacking players produced a strong performance, while Newcastle United’s defence struggled throughout the game.
The result gives Leeds some interesting options to watch, but managers should still be careful about chasing points after one big performance. Their players will need to show that they can produce regularly before becoming serious FPL targets.
