Coming into camp for the World Cup, it was assumed that RB Leipzig star David Raum was going to be the starter at left-back for the German national team.
However, that situation could change as Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown might be making a strong push to win the job.
“Nene Brown has a lot of potential, is a very good 1v1 player, has great pace, plays very intelligently, and feels comfortable in the half-space. David has a few minor physical issues from Leipzig. They are two very good players
who embody different styles. Either could start,” Nagelsmann said in a statement released by the DFB (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Raum did not play in Germany’s 4-0 victory over Finland on Sunday, but is coming off of a spectacular season. Was Brown’s start a product of Raum just dealing with some minor physical issues or is he closing in on winning the job?
It is tough to get a read on what Nagelsmann is thinking. The coach has been known to not exactly always divulge team information in public statements, but Brown is making his case for consideration.
