Joshua Kimmich has been one of the best midfielders in recent memory. The Bayern Munich midfielder has won countless titles for his club. However, since his time with Germany, Die Mannschaft hasn’t exactly
reached their historical level of success. The Bayern Munich veteran recently chimed in on his role with the national team.
Kimmich has taken this leadership role with pride and told Sportschau that there is communication with the national squad outside of the international breaks. Maintaining contact between windows is seen as critical to aligning as a team.
“Of course there’s an exchange with the coach. The coach is very open to that and speaks a lot to us players. It’s also important to maintain the contact even outside the international breaks. We’re one team, we have a goal and we want to work towards it,” Kimmich said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Germany has certainly seen a decline coincidented with Kimmich’s inclusion to the national team, but the midfielder is hardly to blame for the nation’s failures. While Kimmich hasn’t elevated to his peak during crucial tournament fixtures, he has been a reliable cog in the team.
Kimmich is never one to make excuses, but realizes that key injuries have thrown a twist in Julian Nagelsmann’s plans and caused some difficulties with team cohesion. When Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz return to the squad, Germany should be able to perform at the highest, but it is no secret that body language has been disappointing in recent matches.
Nonetheless, Kimmich seems like the player to lead Germany back to success at next year’s World Cup, assuming they can rebuild the momentum from 2024.
