Barcelona back-up goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has reportedly turned down the chance to leave for a “top La Liga club” in favor of staying at Camp Nou and seeing out his contract.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Szczesny was offered the chance to be first choice at another “top” Spanish team but rejected the two-year contract on offer.
The goalkeeper has instead decided he wants to see out his existing deal at Barcelona that runs until 2027.
Szczesny is happy playing back-up to first choice Joan Garcia
and is also reluctant to leave Barcelona for family reasons as his wife and kids are happy and settled in the city.
The 36-year-old has played 10 times this season for Barcelona but may have an even more reduced role next year depending on what happens over the summer.
There’s ongoing speculation that Barca want to bring in Alex Remiro, while Inaki Pena and Aron Yaakobishvili are due back on loan. Diego Kochen will also be hoping to force his way into Hansi Flick’s thoughts for the future.
