Bruno Guimaraes’ future remains one of Newcastle United’s biggest summer storylines, and the Magpies are feeling the heat.
With Arsenal continuing to be linked with the Brazil international and pushing for his transfer, including submitting a £60 million formal offer to get negotiations going, Newcastle thought enough is enough and reportedly denied the presence of any release clause in Bruno’s contract.
According to Football.London, reports in Brazil claimed Bruno has an escape clause in his Newcastle
contract that could allow him to leave this summer for £60 million after the Magpies failed to qualify for the Champions League, similar to the one he had two years ago and would have allowed him to exit Tyneside on his way to Man City if a deal had been completed by June 30.
This time out, while Chronicle Live is reporting that people close to Bruno confirmed the existence of the clause, Newcastle sources have disputed that any release clause exists for the club captain.
“Chronicle Live has been told by sources at United that they dispute any type of release clause exists for Bruno,” the outlet reported. “Bruno has previously had escape clauses in his contract that expire after a certain amount of time with a £100m exit option timing out in June 2024 amid interest from Man City and Arsenal.”
The only approach from Arsenal before the £60 million bid was an informal talk with NUFC in which the Gunners floated a £45million figure. That said, Newcastle quickly rejected the approach and remain firm in declaring Bruno unavailable for transfer.
For now, Newcastle’s position hasn’t changed, but a strong enough offer from the champions could both convince NUFC to sell and Bruno to explore greener pastures elsewhere.
