On the heels of the home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, four tight ends visited Gillette Stadium.
The New England Patriots had free agents Devin Culp, Tanner Conner, Lance Mason and Patrick Murtagh in for workouts on Monday, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Culp, 26, was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round of the 2024 draft at No. 246 overall. The Washington product, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds while at the NFL Scouting Combine, has since appeared in 18
career games. His Bucs stay brought six receptions for 94 yards and one touchdown before before briefly being retained on the practice squad after August’s 53-man roster deadline. The 6-foot-3, 237-pound Culp has seen 97 snaps on offense and 160 snaps on special teams.
Conner, 28, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022. The 6-foot-3, 232-pound Idaho State alum made the Miami Dolphins’ 53-man roster as rookie and went on to appear in 33 games while in the AFC East. He finished 2025 on the practice squad of the New York Giants and was released from his futures contract at the league’s cutdown deadline last month. Through 251 snaps on offense and 413 snaps on special teams, Conner’s career has featured one start along with 12 catches for 107 yards.
Mason, 23, went undrafted in 2026 after transferring from Missouri State to Wisconsin, where he caught 30 passes for 398 yards and four touchdowns as a senior en route to second-team All-Big Ten honors. Mason was in the fold for the Seattle Seahawks from spring into summer. The 6-foot-3, 243-pound rookie was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh amid training camp before being part of the NFL cutdown at the end of August.
Murtagh, 26, joined the NFL International Player Pathway in 2023. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end by way of Australian rules football made his initial stop with the Detroit Lions that May. He then spent 2024 on injured reserve with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being waived with an injury designation. And last campaign, Murtagh went wire-to-wire as an exempt member of the Denver Broncos’ practice squad before his contract expired in February.
No. 95 overall pick Eli Raridon exited in the second quarter of Sunday’s 20-3 win over Pittsburgh with a thigh injury and did not return. With fellow rookie Tanner Arkin among New England’s inactives 90 minutes prior to kickoff, the depth chart was left in the hands of team captain Hunter Henry and waiver claim Cameron Latu.
No tight end currently resides on the practice squad in Foxborough after veteran Shane Zylstra was released last week.
