Another young player has been confirmed by Tottenham Hotspur to be heading out on loan. This time it’s Brazilian fullback Souza, who is headed to the Portuguese coast:
It’s reportedly a “dry” loan to FC Porto for the duration of the season, with no buy option included. It’s a move that has eventuated amongst an injury for Porto left
back Zaidu Sanusi and a rumored transfer away for incumbent Francisco Moura: Porto need reinforcements at left back.
With that in mind, this on the surface seems a good move for Souza. It’s a reasonable jump in level from where he was playing in Brazil, and should allow him to get minutes under his belt and develop further; however, that latter part raises some questions. Though Sanusi is injured, he’s reportedly only out for a couple of months, and a purported move for Moura to Hamburger SV has not materialized, meaning those minutes could very quickly be hard to come by.
Hopefully, though, Spurs know something we don’t, or at least have some assurances – and if not, at the very least Souza will have a nice time in Portugal! All the best to the lad.
