Recent reports have linked youngster Gilberto Mora to an upcoming deal worth $50 million dollars, making him the most expensive Mexican talent in history. No official club has been announced but according to reports the deal will be announced on October 14, 2026 when Mora officially turns 18 years old. Let’s take a look at these rumors.
Rumors of a big move to Europe have been nothing new for Gilberto Mora. Since his debut for the Mexican National team on January 16, 2025 fans and media alike started
speculating where the youngster would land even though he still had two years left before he could make the move due to FIFA regulations. After his appearance in the World Cup the rumors only intensified and now the world is only days away from finding out where the youngster will go. Up until now there were names floating around here and there but now there is something more concrete. According to reports these are the clubs that have a high chance of singing Gilberto Mora:
Liverpool, Dortmund, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and PSG.
While that’s a lot of big names, only a handful of those have actually shown significant interest in the Mexican midfielder: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Dortmund, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. Let’s look at the choices.
LaLiga
Barcelona and Real Madrid are two of Spain’s biggest teams in the country and arguably the two biggest clubs in the world. As of now, Mora has not publicly declared which team he roots for which is why both teams have put him on their radar. For the moment, it would be best for the youngster to stay clear of these teams and make his dream signing later down the road after he makes his move abroad. Realistically, he might not even be an automatic starter. It’s not to say he shouldn’t be starting but it looks like Hansi Flick and Jose Mourinho have their preferred starting lineups and they wouldn’t stray from what has worked so far. In addition, Madrid and Barcelona fans and media are known to be extremely critical so if the player doesn’t adjust immediately then fans and media will call for his release. Mora should develop somewhere else first and then make the move to LaLiga.
Bundesliga
Dortmund would be the best choice for the youngster. That is where Erling Haaland went and where he developed into the player he is now. They share the same agent, Rafaela Pimenta, so it would make sense if Pimenta had already talked to the German team. While this would make sense, Dortmund are more than likely to NOT make a move that is so expensive. They generally go for the sum of the original price tag of $20 million and they will not add on another $30 million for a young player.
Premier League
The more realistic option is that Gilberto Mora will head to England to start his international career. The Premier League is considered to be the most competitive league in the world and while that may seem like he’s walking into a difficult environment, it’s the best situation for him. At Tijuana there’s a limit for Mora. He doesn’t have anywhere to truly grow from since Xolos aren’t known to be a highly competitive team. For a long time they were fighting at the bottom of the table and while they currently average a middle of the table team, it’s still not a competitive club, respectfully. Mora needs a big challenge and the English league will provide just that. Both Manchester United and Arsenal could use the youngster in their midfield but it doesn’t look like he will go to either team, though United look like the best fit for him. Realistically, Liverpool looks like Mora’s destination. We already know that Liverpool isn’t afraid to spend money so the $50 million Pimenta is asking for her client isn’t a big stretch. Liverpool do need fresh ideas considering they don’t look like the team that won the Premier League back in the 2024/2025 season. They need something new and Mora can bring that to the midfield and the team in general.
While no one is completely sure what will happen, Pimenta has stayed tight-lipped throughout all of this, all everyone is sure of is that Gilberto Mora will become Mexico’s highest transfer signing of all time and he has earned it. Juan Carlos Osorio knew Mora had talent from the first moment he saw him with the youth team in Tijuana. Now, two years later, Gilberto Mora will show that Osorio was right to place all his trust in the young wonderkid.
