One of the best Pittsburgh Steelers of this century is once again on the cusp of having his career forever cemented in Canton, Ohio. On Tuesday, the Steelers announced that wide receiver Hines Ward was named one of the 26 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2026.
This marks the tenth year in a row that Ward has been named a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame.
The receiver spent all 14 years of his NFL career in Pittsburgh after being drafted 92nd overall in the 1998 NFL Draft.
Ward’s career numbers may not match those of other receivers, which could reasonably explain why he has not been inducted yet, but Ward is living proof that numbers don’t always tell the full story. Ward was one of the best and most willing blocking receivers in the history of the game. His willingness to do whatever was needed to win perfectly embodied what we have all come to know as characteristics of a “Steelers player.”
Ward is one of the most versatile and unique wide receivers of all time. In his illustrious career, he amassed 1,000 receptions for 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns. He was also named the Super Bowl XL MVP. It is only a matter of time before Ward will be in Canton, and this could be his year.
