Even though he was born in Catalonia and is a product of La Masia who decided to return to his childhood club two and a half years ago, Dani Olmo also has a lot of affection for another club and wants to come back when it’s time to call it a career.
According to Olmo’s agent, Andy Bara, the Barça and Spain midfielder has made it his goal to finish his career at Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian club he joined after leaving La Masia at the age of 16 over a decade ago. Bara says Olmo really loves Dinamo and the city,
and will be heavily involved with the club even after the end of his playing days.
“He wants to finish his career at Dinamo and hopes that will be the case — even as a coach; he would like to start his managerial career at Dinamo. Dani still walks around the house in a Dinamo jersey with the number 7 and his name on it, even now in Barcelona. Other players approach him, and everyone knows the story: when you mention Olmo, their first association is Dinamo. He is far more connected to Dinamo than those who ought to be, yet aren’t.”
Zagreb really is the place where Olmo grew as a player and person and opened the doors to a great career that ultimately led to his return to Barça and a key starting role in Spain’s World Cup winning squad this summer, so it’s not at all surprising to see just how grateful Dani is to a club that helped him so much.
