The San Diego Padres just completed a run of 26 games in 27 days, the last 16 of which were played without a day off. The Padres got a much-needed day off on Thursday before they open a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians tonight.
Michael King has had an up-and-down season thanks to some command and control issues, but he has worked to a 3.37 ERA on the year. In his last outing against the Houston Astros, King delivered a six-inning performance where he allowed one run on three hits
and earned a win.
The Padres will need another similar outing from the right-hander if they want to continue the momentum they built over a 5-1 homestand that saw them sweep the Milwaukee Brewers. King could set the tone for the six-game road trip which starts with three games in Cleveland and ends with three games in New York against the New York Mets. The Friar Faithful hope that is a positive tone, but if King is not on his game, it would go the other way.
San Diego opens its road trip and three-game set against Cleveland today at 4:10 p.m.
