Since 2021, WWE’s annual late November “Big 4” event Survivor Series has been built around the old Dusty Rhodes/WCW-staple, War Games (which WWE stylizes by keeping “Games” capitalized but taking out the space between the two words).
In 2021, the two-rings, one-cage, staggered entry multi-person matches were brought up from NXT, and used to replace the multi-person elimination tag team matches which were Survivor Series’ bread and butter. But while this year’s edition in Houston will feature at least
one WarGames match (The Bloodline vs. 946), it also sounds like it will include at least one traditional Survive Series elimination tag bout.
That match is designed to promote WWE’s newest brand, AAA Lucha Libre, and was teased by AAA on-screen General Manager Rey Mysterio during his appearance on the latest episode of Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast:
“I had a couple of words with Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis, and we are going to put together something very special: A classic five vs. five Survivor Series match at Survivor Series where it will be Team USA vs. Team Mexico.”
It would mark not only the return of elimination tags to the premium live event, but also “brand warfare”, something WWE introduced to Survivor Series in 2005.
ringthebell82 shared the news earlier in The Feed, and asked some interesting questions about the make-up of the teams, whether the match will be presented as a hot feud or a friendly showcase, and how it could potentially go off the rails in our current political environment.
Outside of the expected-but-not-yet announced Roman Reigns/Royce Keys WarGames and a confirmed John Cena appearance, this is the closest we’ve come to something being officially booked for Nov. 28 in Houston’s Daikin Park.
Talk about it below (or in The Feed)!
