Last week, the New Orleans Saints’ draft position didn’t change after losing to the Vikings, but a win over the Giants had a major impact. Entering Week 7, the Saints are now projected to select pick 12 overall in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Georgia LB Chris Cole
Last year’s NFL Draft had an incredible linebacker duo out of Ohio State, and so far this season, Sonny Styles has been an incredible addition to the Washington Commanders, and the same is true for Arvell Reese with the New York Giants. Linebacker has become even more
important in today’s NFL World, and after Demario Davis left in free agency and Kaden Elliss went down with injury, it’s clear the Saints need upgrades. Pete Werner hasn’t been bad, and Danny Stutsman is still developing, but adding a long-term, high-potential, talented LB to this group could improve everything.
Out of Georgia, Chris Cole is having a season of his own. At 6-foot-3, Cole is incredibly fast, a hard hitter, a consistent tackler, can rush the QB at OLB, is good in pass coverage, and will not stop moving. He’s one of those players that you say throughout the game, “oh, there he is again”.
Clemson CB Ashton Hampton
Sticking with defense, cornerback is still one of the Saints’ biggest needs. The Saints may have benched Kool-Aid McKinstry, but they say he had a migraine early in the game, which is why Martin Emerson Jr. was playing. It’s a bit of a confusing situation, but no matter what, the Saints need a new CB1. To find that cheap, selecting one in the first round is the way to do it, and Ashton Hampton could be that player.
For Clemson this season, Hampton has been lockdown. He is leading the nation in pass deflections and shut down one of the most talented WRs in college football, Malachi Toney. He, of course, has some things to work on, but with his length, Hampton is a lockdown corner that the Saints should consider adding to their defense.
