This may be controversial, and it’s not something I could have imagined myself saying eight days ago, but I won’t be upset if Carolina loses to NC State.
Irritated, sure. But the Tar Heels definitely won’t have Caleb Wilson and may not have Henri Veesaar, who as of Monday night was listed as questionable for this game. We saw what a UNC team missing both of them looked like on Saturday, and it included Zayden High playing 32 minutes. That’s a doomed enterprise against any team that’s not complete
garbage (sorry, Pitt).
So, while I hope Carolina will at least keep it close, I’ll have a much easier time brushing off a loss to the Wolfpack than I usually do, because anyone with a modicum of sense knows this group is nowhere close to full strength even if it’s only missing Wilson. On the other hand, if the Tar Heels can pull out a win–especially without Veesaar–it would immediately become a season highlight. Imagine being able to remind the NC State fan in your life that Will Wade and his crew got punked on their home floor by a bunch of role players.
