Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany can look across the field and see a good team in Werder Bremen — not one that has been winless since November 7th.
“We always say that there are no easy Bundesliga
matches. They have a new coach, which brings a certain variability to the game. In terms of football, they haven’t played that badly; they just haven’t scored enough goals. If you look at the overall picture, they haven’t performed as badly as you might think. They’re a good team that, when the confidence is there, is difficult to play against in every aspect. When the opponent has a new coach, you have to be tactically flexible and pay even more attention to your strengths,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kompany does not try to put too much focus on the opposition, though, as he prefers to put his time into his own squad.
“I’m very focused on ourselves and in a tunnel vision. It doesn’t matter what happens in the other games. In our minds the competition is winning every game, and then we have to win every game too. I’m 100% in that tunnel vision and I hope the team is, too,” Kompany said.
Per the norm, Kompany did not reveal much about his lineup, but he did drop this nugget for anyone who was interested in the goalkeeper situation: “Manuel Neuer will start.”
So, no Jonas Urbig this weekend for those keeping count at home.
