When Will Wade left NC State this spring, the university was angry and just fine with seeing the back of him as he walked out on the Pack for LSU.
Fast forward a couple of months, and State has made it clear they’re not quite done with Wade yet.
NC State is investigating Wade for possibly violating the Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act, a state law in North Carolina, and that either he, or LSU, or both, may have to pay damages and NC State’s attorneys as well.
Obviously this ups the stakes. If
the university does file suit against Wade and LSU, they’ll get to rifle through all of their e-mails, texts, and other documents as part of discovery.
That will almost certainly get messy, so it won’t surprise us if Wade and LSU move to settle out of court. And if State has a sense of humor, they’ll move that money directly into the NIL fund. Will Wade, no doubt, would appreciate the irony.
