A week ago, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers would be two teams looking to add players at what he said would be a very active trade deadline.
“I’ve heard both teams connected to several defensive players,” he said. “Including rushers Josh Sweat, Khalil Mack also DeForest Buckner. Along with some names who aren’t necessarily on the trade block. I think both Chicago and San Francisco want to be aggressive, and I’ll be shocked if they don’t make a move
before the deadline.”
Shortly after that report, the 49ers traded for Buckner, and the Bears traded for Jeffery Simmons.
Schultz was back on Ryan Clark’s The Pivot podcast today, and he mentioned the 49ers and Bears again.
“I don’t think either team is done,” Schultz said. “I think the 49ers are still looking for a receiver and pass rusher. While the Bears want another pass rusher and secondary help. So I wouldn’t rule out another move from either team. There’s a lot of Khalil Mack buzz for both clubs.”
Mack has been linked to the Bears for weeks now, but the ‘Niners buzz has been there as well (just not as loud). The winless Los Angeles Chargers need to want to trade him, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter said this morning that they still haven’t given an “indication that they’re willing to trade anybody.”
The secondary help Schultz references could be a corner, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were looking for a veteran safety so they could plug Cam Lewis back into a jack-of-all-trades reserve role.
The trade deadline is a week from tomorrow, on Tuesday, November 10, at 3:00 PM CT.
Besides Mack, who would you like the Bears to target at the trade deadline?
