Game Summary:
The first 4:21 of the game was hard to watch, especially sitting behind a Campbell fan. The Wolfpack missed five consecutive shots and committed 3 turnovers to fall behind 7-1, until Hammond came off the bench and scored the first Wolfpack basket of the game.
NC State woke up and began to play as expected and took over the game, holding the Camels to only 5 made baskets the rest of the half. The Pack shot 56% / 42% / 86%, had 11 assists on 15 made baskets, and led the rebounding 21-18.
Ugly start, but all was right with the world.
In the second half, as we have seen innumerable times, NC State played well for about 10 minutes and pushed the lead to as much as 35 and then relaxed. Campbell did not, they played hard to the end of the game and closed that lead to 19.
Overall Takeaways:
- NC State struggled early against the Campbell smaller, quicker guards. 8 of the Pack’s 13 total turnovers were in the first half, 3 in the first 4 minutes.
- Rebounding is still a work in progress, other than Lubin. Evans and Jurkovic totaled 3 rebounds. NC State had the height advantage, but still only led rebounding by 4.
- Shooting remains a strength. The Wolfpack shot 54% / 44% and had a FT% close to 80% for most of the game, but ended at 67%.
- Even considering the late game fade, the Pack still played solid defense. The Camels ended up shooting 37% / 23% / 63%
