On the play before the Detroit Lions’ game-winning kick against the Green Bay Packers, Jahmyr Gibbs had a clean path to the end zone, but stopped on a dime after earning the first down. He did that so Detroit could run off any remainder of the clock and kick the field goal as time expired—the exact right thing to do
But on the play, Gibbs fell awkwardly to the ground and got up slowly. That led many Lions fans to express significant concern about their bell-cow back. Thankfully, there is nothing to worry
about.
“We got him checked. He should be good,” coach Dan Campbell said after the game.
Gibbs was all smiles in the locker room after the game, further indicating that there doesn’t appear to be any issues with his health. He also addressed the injury, saying he experienced some initial pain, but not anymore.
“It did (hurt) at first, but it went away, though,” Gibbs said. “Yeah, it’s going to be fine.”
Campbell said the scare did give him a little pause about the strategy at the end of the game. Rather than risk an injury, maybe it’s more important to just score and trust your defense to keep the Packers out of the end zone at the end of the game.
“Is it really worth going down and try to finish the game or you just go score? Sometimes I question that,” Campbell said. “I don’t know, maybe we shouldn’t just, but all good. It’s a good win.”
In the meantime, Gibbs joked that he may take some sliding tips from quarterback Jared Goff.
“He needs to (teach me); that shit was awful,” Gibbs said.
