When Indiana women’s basketball tips off against No. 7 Maryland on Sunday afternoon in College Park, it’ll do so against a familiar face.
Yarden Garzon, who spent three seasons with the Hoosiers from 2022-2024,
will suit up against her former team after joining the Terrapins through the transfer portal this past offseason, which saw plenty of player movement out of Bloomington.
Garzon is averaging 13.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 37.4% from the 3-point line in 29.6 minutes per game with Maryland this season. Those roughly match her numbers during her time with Indiana, though she never shot under 40% on 3s during her time with the Hoosiers.
Maryland has started 14-1 but played just one ranked team, Kentucky, during the non-conference, a 74-66 win for the Terrapins. They’re coming off of a 73-70 road loss to Illinois.
Just like at Indiana, Garzon’s size on the outside, shooting and playmaking will make her difficult to cover. The Hoosiers are a tad shorthanded along the wing and have plenty of other Terps to worry about, so it’ll be interesting to see how they go about defending her. Just three members of the current roster, Lenee Beaumont, Shay Ciezki and Faith Wiseman, played with Garzon, as Sydney Fenn redshirted last season.
